Got featured on CSS Based :) I never realized how many CSS showcase galleries there were out there until, well, I started looking. I mean seriously, over 200? I suppose it’d be fairly straightforward to run and would bring in lot of traffic if successful without too much initial investment, but it doesn’t seem like it’d be particularly exciting to maintain.

While I’ve looked through CSS Mania and Webcreme numerous times, now that one of my sites is posted on something of that nature I’m more compelled to draw comparisons. The only major conclusion I’ve come to so far is that I still have a ton to learn about design.

Speaking of inspirations though, I saw orbasquara.com through a facebook update and it’s such a fantastic presentation for an album. I can’t say that I’m in love with the music, but the typography, design and story are borderline addictive.

Social networking and other pickles

October 6th, 2009 at 8:07 pm No Comments

When I was at the height of my online journal posting phase I’d make mental notes about things to write about throughout the day. As the day progressed, I’d slowly fashion and expand upon those topics at the back of my mind to try to make an insightful and clever entry. Most of the time it all came out as crap, but that’s not the point. Everything’s a one-liner these days and I really want to blame Twitter and Facebook for the difficulty I have generating posts now. It may just be that my urge and ability to write has degraded over time, but I’d rather blame what social networking has turned us into.

I had a hard enough time doing marathon essays in college. Now I can just barely get past a paragraph. Links and acronyms and single-sentence updates.

The other pickle is, how do you bring traffic to your site when everything can be fed and widgeted onto an all-encompassing page that is not yours? I don’t even visit my usual sites directly now that there’s Google Reader. I’m inclined to install a plug-in that’ll update Facebook with an entry note sort of thing and create a mirror on livejournal since there are still a number of cool kids using that, but then where does traffic come from? Which also begs the question: Why do I care about traffic in the first place?

Mysteries!

Oh, I’m definitely going to make a bot for a certain game I’ve been playing with the fairies and the furries tonight.

WPhone test

Trying out an almost depreciated plug-in for making WordPress posts through you phone.

It’s almost depreciated because they’re making it into an iPhone app. Unfortunate! This seems to work just fine on my HTC Fuze (still the dumbest name for a phone I’ve ever owned). Impressive that the latest version is from late 2007 but hasn’t completely broken yet. Well, assuming this post goes through.

New layout

October 2nd, 2009 at 1:50 am No Comments

I guess the new layout’s about 95% complete. Need to fix sidebar poking into the text area in IE6, style the comments area, then run everything through some validators.

Not entirely sure how I feel about this one, to be honest. The painting of trees on floating islands was graciously done by my boyfriend since he offered! (Likely because what I had lined up previously was questionable.) That’s probably my favorite part about this though. Other than that, the colors and styling are all over the place and I couldn’t figure out a good way to format the rest of my pages (profile and projects) to be cohesive with the rest of the layout but still sectioned out and organized.

I’ve never been terribly good with dark layouts and am already envisioning what the next WHITE based layout will look like. Going to stick this one out for a quarter of a year at the very least regardless :)
